A Futile Fatwa

The MUI has not revoked its fatwa (religious edict) against the Ahmadiyah sect. If it is unable to deal with differences it should be disbanded.

IT is difficult to refrain from saying that the 33-year-old Indonesian Ulamas Council (MUI) has ‘betrayed’ its own credo. Its objective of being an organization that manifests goodwill to attain “unity among Muslims” is becoming far from reality. The MUI does not look as if it is representing the plurality of the Faithful.
