Altering the operating days for industry is not the way to solve the electricity shortage. Efficiency and selective tariff increases need to be considered.

THE government seems to have run out of ideas in managing the electricity crisis. As of next week, industry must operate on Saturdays and Sundays. The reason for this joint decision by five ministers seems simple enough. Every weekday, there is a deficit of 600 megawatts of electricity in Java and Bali, while on weekends, there is a surplus.
