Paltry Punishment
The five-year jail sentence for Artalyta is too light. Prosecutors should have worked harder to ensure she got the appropriate punishment.

THE five-year jail sentence given to Artalyta Suryani is simply not hard enough redress to cover the crimes she committed. It is too light in comparison to the laws she broke. We worry that the sentence from the Corruption Court will not only lack a deterrent effect, it will also send the wrong signals, i.e. that bribing prosecutors or other law officials does not count as a serious crime.
