Constitutional Setback

The Constitutional Court refused to revoke possible criminal charges for defamation cases. Freedom of expression is under threat.

A BLINKERED decision. That is the best way to describe the refusal of the Constitutional Court to eliminate criminal charges on four libel and defamation articles against the country’s rulers in the Criminal Code (KUHP). As a result, these articles, which clearly threaten the public’s freedom of expression, continue to be a part of our democratic society.
