The East Java gubernatorial election in three regencies in Madura was found to have been flawed. The main contenders need to show restraint.

IF you do not believe in democracy and see regional autonomy as nothing more than a burden on the nation, take a look at the local elections in East Java. In that province, conflict after last November’s election could have broken out any time. But judging from the way the dispute was resolved by the Constitutional Court, we can be proud that politics in Indonesia, so far, can be polite, friendly and constitutional.
