Respect for Suramadu Bridge

Only a week after the Suramadu Bridge was officially opened, its lamps, its nuts and bolts were stolen. The people of Madura must participate in maintaining this important bridge.

THE Suramadu (SurabayaMadura) Bridge was first proposed by renowned Indonesian architect, the late Prof. Sedyatmo, during the 1960s. Because of obstacles—from the economic crisis to concerns about the “future” of Madura and its religious population—construction was continually delayed.
