The KPPU should act before questionable decisions add to business uncertainty.

MONOPOLIES must be opposed. But the ruling by the Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU) canceling the acquisition of Alfa by Carrefour—which resulted in a retail monopoly—must be questioned. The KPPU’s decision has added to business uncertainty in this country.

According to the KPPU, Carrefour violated Law No. 5/1999 on Monopolistic Practices and Unhealthy Business Competition. Carrefour was ordered to sell its 75 percent share
