The government’s intention to tighten up wiretapping procedures threatens the anticorruption movement. All wiretaps can be audited by an oversight committee.

THE government’s plan to regulate the procedures for wiretapping could weaken the authority of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). If it is allowed to continue, the plan to produce a government regulation on wiretaps only shows that the government fails to see that corruption in this nation has reached a critical level. Unconventional methods are needed to eradicate it. Wiretaps are an important breakthrough that must be continued.
