Free trade between ASEAN and China will begin in 2010. Delays are needed, but several of our industries need shaking up.

THE Indonesian government has the right policy on ASEAN-China free trade. Although it has already agreed to remove all export and import tariffs from January 1, 2010, the government has delayed the implementation of the agreement for several industries. It will renegotiate, together with the ASEAN nations and China, modifications and delays to 303 of the 8,000 individual tariffs covered by the treaty.
