Reclaiming Jakarta’s Coastline
The regional government must respect the Supreme Court ruling and halt the reclamation project. In addition to being a cause of floods, the impact on the ecosystem is very serious.

IT is difficult to understand why the Jakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) is insisting on continuing the coastline reclamation in its area. The decline in quality and even the destruction of the environment as a result of the landfill since 1995 is easy to see. But it seems the warning bells are not loud enough to rouse officials from their pompous dream of having a city waterfront like in Singapore, Hong Kong or Sydney.
