The central government has stepped in as part of the latest effort to resolve Jakarta’s traffic woes. The city governor needs to show more determination.

IT should have been Governor Fauzi Bowo announcing the 17-point plan designed to provide a stopgap solution to the city’s traffic woes, rather than Vice President Boediono. After all, it is the governor who is responsible for formulating traffic policies in the capital. While a number of ministries, and also the police, have significant roles to play, the governor is supposed to be in overall charge.
