The reasons behind the KPI’s decision to stop airing RCTI’s Silet infotainment program must be clearly explained. Freedom of expression should not be destroyed.

THE Indonesian Broadcasting Commission’s (KPI) ban on the airing of Silet—an “infotainment” show on RCTI—needs to be accompanied by some explanations. First of all, irresponsible and unsubstantiated news must immediately be stopped. Secondly, in exercising its authority, the KPI must act clearly and resolutely, without being excessive.
