The Path to End Terrorism

A plan to amend the Anti-Terrorism Law could lead to human rights violation. The existing legal umbrella is seen to be adequate.

THE international community has acknowledged Indonesia's accomplishments in the war against terrorism. To jail terror suspects, we do not throw them into maximum security prisons, like Bagram or Guantanamo Bay. Our courts have tried terror suspects transparently. Hundreds have been jailed in accordance with the Anti-Terrorism Law and the Criminal Code. In June, the South Jakarta District Court sentenced radical cleric Abu Bakar Ba'asyir to 15 years
