There is nothing out of the ordinary with winning or losing in court. It only becomes unusual if the judges turn out to be lacking in the wherewithal to try the case. It is even more strange if these judges favor the company involved in a legal dispute with the state.

This unusual situation was apparent when the Pekanbaru District Court issued its ruling in the lawsuit filed by the Environment Ministry against Merbau Pelalawan Lestari last week.
