SUPREME Court Justice Artidjo Alkostar should have applied the principle of in bubio pro reo (when in doubt, for the accused) when it ruled on the appeal lodged by Hotasi Nababan, former managing director of Merpati Nusantara Airlines. Nababan was found guilty of corruption and was sentenced to four years in jail and a fine of Rp200 million, even though there was not enough evidence to indict him. This level of doubt should have reminded the judg
