The theft of billions of rupiah from ATMs shows that security is not as good as it should be. Bank Indonesia needs to accelerate the implementation of compulsory 'chip cards'.

NO one was shocked when the thefts from automated teller machines (ATMs) amounted to almost Rp21 billion, extracted from the accounts of several banks in the space of just a few days. There have been many instances of ATM card data being recorded. But we are perplexed by the fact that the 'creativity' of these thieves is far ahead of banking security technology. One huge government-owned and one privately owned bank were the main victims this time:
