A Cement Factory over Groundwater Basin

The ban on mining in groundwater basins is very clear. Presidential Regulation No. 20/2011 and Governmental Regulation No. 43/2008 on Groundwater state that groundwater basins are conservation areas that must be preserved. There are no exceptions.

The presidential regulation also protects the Watuputih karst hills in the North Kendeng range, Central Java. These hills are a vital water reservoir. People living in Rembang and the surrounding area rely on this water for agriculture and for all their daily needs. It is also the main source for bottled water companies and is a reserve supply during the long dry season.
