Pharm Aceuticals for The People, not For Profit

Instead of enjoying cheap medicine in Indonesia the largest market for drugs in Southeast Asia many patients buy generic drugs for up to 10 times the actual price. The consequence of collusion between doctors and hospitals on one side and pharmaceutical companies on the other, this is a very worrying state of affairs. More importantly it's the danger this poses to patients' health, because doctors base their diagnosis and prognosis on which medicines to prescribe on the commission they receive from drug companies.

An investigation by Tempo magazine revealed a conspiracy of more than 2,000 doctors in 51 hospitals in Jakarta, West Java, Banten, East Java and South Sulawesi with the pharmaceutical industry. The company under the spotlight is Interbat, based in Sidoarjo, East Java.
