The current turmoil in Turkey is a costly lesson for democratic countries around the world. It seems not all democratically elected leaders are able to safeguard democratic principles, as seen from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoans overreaction to the failed coup dtat in his country two weeks ago. He detained more than 6,000 people who were said to have participated in the coup.
