It's time this offense was removed from our legal system. It risks exacerbating tensions between those of different faiths.

THE police could name Rizieq Shihab a suspect in a blasphemy case. The recording of a speech in which he insulted the Christian belief that Jesus was born of a woman without sin is all over social media. It is easy to obtain proof. But criminalizing a person for blasphemy is both absurd and complicated. It also carries the risk of pitting followers of different faiths against each other.
