THE government made the right decision when it called off the plan to evacuate the remains of victims as well as retrieve the Sinar Bangun from the bottom of Lake Toba, North Sumatra. It was no longer technically possible to retrieve both victims and the sunken vessel from a depth of 450 meters at the bottom of the Haranggaol Caldera-the deepest part of the lake.
