The Law on Information and Electronic Transactions has once again claimed a victim. It needs to be revised to safeguard freedom of expression.

Ahmad Dhani Prasetyo is a victim of slapdash law enforcement and the elasticity of the ruling within the Law on Information and Electronic Transactions (ITE). The musician-cum-politician was deemed guilty of hate-mongering, and was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months imprisonment. The law that put the noose on Ahmad Dhani’s neck has too often been criticized, and in fact should be deleted, because it goes against the very grain of freedom
