Courtroom Manners, Please!

The use of profanities by lawyers and prosecutors in courtrooms only pours more disrepute on Indonesia's already tarnished courts.

During some of the trials at the Central Jakarta District Court last week, certain lawyers behaved like irresponsi-ble juveniles rather than respected law-enforcement officers. Annoyed with interruptions from the prosecution during cross-examination of his witness, Akbar Tandjung's attorney Jhon Waliry called prosecutor Fachmi a "bastard..." Prosecutor Fachmi retorted with a "You bastard too…"
