Testifying by Videoconference

For the first time, testimony in a local courtroom trial was given through a videoconference, raising a number of questions.

The testimony of former president B.J. Habibie in the South Jakarta District Court is certainly a breakthrough in Indonesian criminal law. Nevertheless, several issues need to be agreed on, if cases such as this are to reoccur and to become part of jurisprudence. Primarily, this is connected to whether the testimony given is valid under the law, and also the various implications on the use of this sophisticated technology.
