Baku Bae in Maluku

Civil emergency in Maluku ended in September and one of the more serious threats to our republic has passed by, thanks to the crucial Malino Accord and baku bae.

THE ruins of 3,000 homes, schools, offices, markets and places of worship are silent witnesses to the civil conflict in Maluku. This nation should be thankful that the long bloody days from 1999 _ 2000 are now in the past. Lives shattered by conflict are now being united in fraternity. Enmity has almost disappeared, to be replaced by the desire to return to a harmonious coexistence, or baku bae as local people call it.
