New Palm Oil Plantations in Papua

Large-scale expansion has the potential to destroy forests.

AGRICULTURE Minister Anton Apriyantono is considering a decree to license the opening of more palm oil plantations in Papua. But the issuance of the licenses will be done very strictly, in order to avoid conflict between investors and the local communities, as has been the case in Kalimantan and Sumatra.
