A Wealth of Disparate Data
The result of BPS research on poverty in Central Sulawesi and Gorontalo indicates that the number of poor people has risen. Regional governments, however, claim the number of poor has decreased. Is it because of different approaches in data collection?

THE Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) of Central Sulawesi reported that more than 60 percent of the total 2.5 million population of this province were below the poverty line in 2007. This number of poor was predicted as increasing after the rise of fuel prices last May.
