A Dinosaur Farewell?

Turtles will share the fate of dinosaurs in a few years—extinction. In fact, turtles belong to the species placed under international protection. Their nesting sites in Sorong and East Kalimantan will determine the turtle population in Indonesia.

THE unpleasant news came from a national workshop on the conservation and management of turtles in Jember, East Java, at the end of December. The population of sea turtles in Indonesian waters was said to keep shrinking. The decrease is substantial, reaching 40-80 percent annually.
