Maleo’s Private Beach

A US conservation group bought a beach where maleo birds lay eggs in North Sulawesi, to protect the habitat of this endangered species.

BINEREAN Beach is virtually a ‘maternity hospital’ for maleo and sea turtles. Maleo birds (Macrocephalon maleo) regularly bury their eggs on the fine sandy beach. Located in Cape Binerean, the beach is also known as the favorite nesting place for green turtles, leatherback turtles and lekang turtles.
