Protecting Maleo Eggs from Frying Pans

MOTHER maleo birds now need not be afraid to leave their eggs buried in warm sand. The maleo nests scattered along Binerean Beach have been safe from theft since the zone was declared a private beach for the birds.
A guard watches over their eggs all day long. Two conservation institutions, Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and Pelestari Alam Liar dan Satwa (PALS), are cooperating to protect the zone estimated to accommodate 40 maleo nests.
