Papua’s Michael Jackson

Jecko Siempo, a native Papuan, is one of four Indonesians listed as young achievers in the book Young Southeast Asians.

JECKO Siompo seldom appears in public. He’s known only as a choreographer whose works feature in the movies Opera Jawa, Laskar Pelangi, and Generasi Biru.

Born in Jayapura, Papua, 34 years ago, he has taken part in many contemporary dance competitions. His dance troupe, Jecko Dance, has been invited to perform in Russia, Japan, and Hong Kong. Last May his work, Terima Kost, was performed at the Singapore Arts Festival.
