Bunaken’s World Record and Economic Prospects
The international maritime event, ‘Sail Bunaken 2009’, is seen as a big success and capable of invigorating the local economy. Manado is expected to become the next tourist destination after Bali, Yogya, and Jakarta.

JUST imagine, it’s an underwater flag ceremony to mark independence proclamation. It’s complete with uniforms and ceremonial symbols—under the inspector of ceremony—and certainly all diving equipment. It involved a lot of domestic and foreign participants, at the same time breaking the Guinness world record of the longest dive with the largest number of divers. That’s what happened on Malalayang Beach, Bunaken waters, on August 17.
