With habitat contracting and population shrinking, the fate of orangutans is becoming ever more miserable.

IN the hub of a jungle upstream of Barito River, after several hours’ travel by helicopter to the north of Palangkaraya, 46 orangutans returned to their original habitat. Starting exactly on Independence Day, August 17, all rehabilitated orangutans were released in phases over a week. They were back to nature after spending years in a rehabilitation center due to deforestation.
