An increasing number of street children have become a social problem for Makassar as it grows into a bigger city. Research by Hasanuddin University shows negative behavior among these children.

In the post-monetary crisis period in Indonesia, one of the ever more concrete social phenomena in major cities is the rising number of street children. Data from the Social Affairs Department show street children in some of Indonesia’s big cities in 2005 totaled 150,000 and neglected children 3,308,642.
