Meteor in the Skies of Bone

The force of a recent meteoric explosion over Bone is said to be equal to 50 kilotons of TNT or three times that of an atomic bomb.

THE skies were clear over Bone on Thursday, October 8, when a multiple explosion jolted the small town on the southern coast of South Sulawesi. White smoke took shape in the form an inverted ‘7’ in the heavens.

Residents were alarmed, but not Thomas Djamaluddin, head of Atmospheric and Climatic Science at the National Aviation and Space Agency (LAPAN). A senior astronomer and astrophysicist, Thomas said a meteor had simply exploded over Bone
