Green Empowerment
A special empowerment program was created to address communities’ lack of green awareness. There is positive progress, but challenges remain.

UNDER the shade of trees, Ruske and about 30 other women in Tinongko village on Mantehage Island, North Sulawesi, squatted and diligently cleaned and flattened a pile of clumpy soil. The soil is then mixed with a mixture of bran and cement by stomping it with feet, added with water and little by little carved into a circular shape. “The hardest part is molding. Your hands have to move very fast,” said Ruske.
