No More Slash-and-Burn

The Mitra Tani Mandiri Foundation received an award from the UNDP last month. They have been successful in changing the cultivation method of slash-and-burn and increasing farmers’ income.

THE house stands tall in the village of Jak, in East Miomafo subdistrict, North Timor Tengah. The roof uses corrugated zinc sheets while part of the wall is made of concrete. The owner of the house is Basilus Kollo, a farmer aged 35. In the yard, he parked his Honda Supra X motorcycle, which is always ready to deliver his crops of corn and rice to the market.
