THE fame of Lukas Barayap who can call fish has spread far and wide. The regent of Samosir in North Sumatra, Mangindar Simbolon, wished to invite Lukas to Lake Toba to try out his abilities there. Lukas could be used as an attraction to draw more tourists.

Mangindar was charmed by Mochtar Pakpahan’s enthusiastic story of what he had seen in Manokwari. “I was amazed at how tame the fish were with Lukas,” said Mochtar two weeks ago. The head
