In December, American Robin Lim was named CNN's Hero of the Year. The social worker was recognized for her tireless efforts in aiding the healthy birth of thousands of babies at her free clinic in Ubud, Bali. Similarly, in some parts of eastern Indonesia, a number of brave and able midwives are dedicating their time to help women and children in remote villages, often fighting cultural barriers that hinder their efforts, while others run clinics teaching traditional midwives the newest development in their field.
