Fire and Water

A community works together to protect their water-surrounded National Park from forest fires.

A row of eight meter-poles stands erect above the water, greeting us upon our arrival at the heart of Sentarum Lake, West Kalimantan. The top was covered with wooden planks. It was a small dock. But because of the low tide, one could only see the pillars. We tied our boat to one of the poles and climb up through a flight of stairs to get to the dock's floor. Around 20 meters from there, a small hut emerged. That is the headquarters of Sentarum Lak
