In a hamlet somewhere in north Sumatra, husband and wife Jumiati and Sutrisno help out fishermen through cooperative projects, ranging from mangrove planting to running coffee shops.

Every afternoon, fishermen fill a coffee stall at Hamlet Tiga, located on the banks of an estuary some 100 meters from the Malaka Strait. The 18-square meter eatery is made of bamboo walls covered by a palm-thatch roof. Its location is in front of the boat mooring post. Something feels amiss if we don't stop by here for a cup of coffee after fishing," Ahmad Yani, one of the fishermen, told Tempo two weeks ago.
