Village-Based Tourism in the East
The Tourism and Creative Industry Ministry expects 9.2 million visitors to descend on Indonesia this year. Among the many destinations gearing up for this influx of tourists will be villages in remote, off-the-beaten-track areas. Villagers hope to attract visitors into experiencing their unique traditional lives in the midst of rice fields, forests or coastal villages. Locals have set up traditional 'bed and breakfasts' for the arrival of the adventurous visitors, in the hope of boosting local economies. Village Tourism ala Central Lombok
Village tourism packages started by a number of youths in Central Lombok has improved the local economy. Interaction between tourists and villagers is a large part of the appeal.
There is a sign reading 'Mas-Mas Tourism Village' on the road leading in to the village. Lush rice fields and trees can be seen on either side. There are trees bearing jackfruit, mango, and lobe-lobe-a local fruit that resembles lychee.
