THE beautiful vistas of North Tapanuli regency, in the province of North Sumatra, have earned it the name of Bona Pasongit, which means pretty village. Additionally its cool air, due to its 300 to 1,800 meters above sea level, further makes it ideal as a tourist destination.

But the main income-earner of North Tapanuli with its 267,411 population is still agriculture, its most famous product being coffee, particularly of the arabica variety. Much
