More Tea, Pak Bupati?

To some people an ‘English village’ in Indonesia may sound rather twee. To others, preposterous and a marketing gimmick. But there is one, and staying there for any length of time is—literally—an education.

IT MAY just be the only village of its kind. A place known for the decidedly foreign-sounding names of many of its houses. About 40 houses in all, like Harmony House, Flower House, Villa Delfia, and Golden Trees, to name but a few.

A tourist destination in Europe, perhaps? Or maybe a string of villas in Puncak Pass? Wrong again. Used for board and lodging, these particular houses are in Singgahan Village, Pare District, Kediri, East Java. And
