State officials in the habit of amassing illicit wealth now face two legal sanctions. They will henceforth be seen as committing an offence in the legal perspective as well as in the religious dimension. Two weeks ago, the National Congress of the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), Indonesia's largest Islamic organization, held at the Pondok Gede Hajj Dormitory in Jakarta, declared that donations, gifts and grants offered to state officials are unlawful.
