Quake-Ready City

A tsunami escape building is being built in Padang. It is designed to accommodate up to 3,500 people and withstand earthquakes of magnitude 10 on the Richter scale.

THE employees of the West Sumatra Governor’s Office in Padang can now breathe a sigh of relief. At least a year from now they will be able to work in peace, without the constant fear of a long-predicted 8.9 magnitude earthquake and ensuing tsunami that might suddenly come as they work.
