A TOYOTA Kijang Innova car pulled up by a paddy field in Lamongan, East Java. The passenger appeared from the vehicle and examined the canthel corn plants grown on the irrigation embankment. A farmer looked surprised to see a city dweller in formal shoes looking at the plant also known as sorghum. The plant is not as famous as in the early 1970s, when it was touted as a crop that could fill the food demand in Indonesia.
