The 2001 defense bill just submitted by the government to the House of Representatives (DPR) places the Indonesian Military (TNI) as the principal component of national defense. The bill does mention a reserve force that will only be called up to "enlarge and strengthen the active force of TNI through mobilization."

If the bill is passed by the DPR into law, Indonesia will then maintain an army consisting solely of professional soldie
