In its 55 years, the Republic of Indonesia has seen three defense laws enacted in 1948, 1954 and 1982 respectively. Law No.3/1948 was a wartime product. The other two, Law No.29/1954 on State Defense and Law No.20/1982 on Principles of State Defense and Security, laid down the foundations for a number of defense issues to be further specified in procedural provisions. Nearly all the subjects however have been overlooked.
