Trias Politica, We Can Take It or Leave It

Our nation's founders never intended to follow trias politica. A government can be democratic without using that principle.

THERE is a belief that is gaining strength in this age of reformasi, that a democratic government can only be effectively carried out with trias politica (separation of state power into three branches: legislative, judicial, and executive). President Abdurrahman Wahid once called our nation's founders hypocrites. They wanted to apply trias politica, but in reality their wish was never put into action.
